James was sentenced to 6-8 months with a possibility of getting out in 3 with good behaviour.

This mug shot of James was part of his evaluation for a helmet, or better known as a DOC Band. James is a candidate because he has severe plagiocephaly. Essentially, his head was formed with a flat spot on one side while in utero. He was wedged down in the pelvis area (which I probably complained about every single day when pregnant). Because babies now sleep on their back as part of SIDS prevention, his flat spot became even flatter while his head was forming and growing.

We go for his second set of measurements this week and will get his DOC Band in two weeks.

On a bright note, Emma had her hip xrays and they can back normal. Phew.

6 Month Checkup

Everything went pretty much as expected.

James: 20lb5oz (89%) and 25in(6%)
Emma: 15lb10oz(41%) and 24 1/2 in(9%)

Both are very healthy and the doctor is pleased. She said to keep James on the same diet as he is now. We can start adding soft foods like bananas and switch them to sippy cups.

James needs to go to for a consult for his head. He most likely will be diagnosed with plagiocephaly. This occurs often these days because babies sleep on their backs while there heads are still forming. James had a tendency to favor one side over the other and regardless of what we did, he ended up with his head in the same position. This caused his head to be misshapen in the back. Hopefully because we are dealing with it while he is still very young, it won't take long to shape it back to a normal position. He will probably wear a helmet or what is known as a DOC Band for a short period time. He will also need a band physical therapy for his neck to release the muscles on the side he favors.

Emma is going to have a hip xray this week to look for developmental dysplasia . They keep an eye on breech babies for hip issues because of how the hip was formed while they are still in the womb. Emma is not standing or rolling like James, so the doctor felt it was best to get it done to see if there are any issues. It could be that she is just on a different developmental track than James, but we want to be proactive so we don't miss anything.

Wow, I can't believe they are 6 months already. Where has the time gone?

Both Emma and James are doing great. They go for their 6 month appointment next week so I will post with their stats afterwards. Emma also has her final appointment (we hope) with the lung doctor next week as well.
